Commentary | The first of four illustrations dedicated to this episode; now, the encounter with the Saint Benedict friars and the carriage with a Basque lady.
The composition is similar to the one used for "Don Quixote and the silk merchants" (p. 93); in the left foreground, don Quixote and Sancho (well drawn and engraved), while, from the right background, the friars and the carriage move closer (sketched). |
