Commentary | Well-known scene; Johannot has resolved it with naturalism and a simple composition with the basic characters: don Quixote knelt down before the innkeeper, who holds a book and a sword, and observed by the two "ladies" (they do not hold either the spurs or the sword) and a boy (with a candle?); there a light illuminating the scene from the top, but we can not see any light.
Interesting and marked lights and shadows contrast. |
