Commentary | Two different scenes in the same plate:
In the foreground, don Quixote and Sancho make out their village from a hill; Sancho's donkey carries the robes from Altisidora's episode (mitre and tunic); on the right, two boys talking about a cage of crikets (understood by don Quixote as a bad omen about Dulcinea). In the background, don Quixote and Sancho are welcome by the priest, barber, Teresa Panza and others. Drawing, shading and engraving are excellent; detailed figures and setting; good gestures and expressions; remarkable style. |
