Commentary | In the foreground, the humorous action: don Quixote orders Sancho to let the Dueñas pinch him; "Ten paciencia, hijo, y da gusto a estos Señores, y muchas gracias al cielo, por haber puesto tal virtud en tu persona" (69:2).
Sancho is wearing a tunic with flames and a mitre (it should be a conic hood or capirote as used in Autos de Fe). In the background, more theatrical and dramatic, Altisidora appears lying on a catafalque; also a boy ("un hermoso mancebo vestido á lo Romano") playing the harp, the Duque, the Duchess, Minos and Radamanto (as kings). Highly-detailed illustration. Drawing, shading and engraving are quite good; detailed figures and setting; good gestures and expressions; remarkable style. |
