Commentary | Two different scenes in the same plate:
In the background, through the door: don Quixote riding along Barcelona with his name in a parchment on his back; don Antonio Moreno accompanies him. In the foreground: don Antonio Moreno showing the enchanted head (as a Roman bust; accurate to Cervantes' text) to don Quixote, Sancho, his wife and some friends. Drawing, shading and engraving are excellent; detailed figures and setting; good gestures and expressions; remarkable style. |
Notes | 1 - Based on Bouttats' illustration (Amberes: Verdussen, 1672-73). |
