Commentary | Don Quixote, Sancho, the Duke, Duchess and Doña Rodríguez (?) observe the entry of Countess Trifaldi's retinue: fife and drum players in black robes, veiled dueñas, Countes Trifaldi, Trifaldín (giant, bearded and with a scimitar) and three pages holding each point of Trifaldi's skirt.
Very remarkable composition. Drawing, shading and engraving are excellent; detailed figures and setting; good gestures; remarkable style. |
Notes | 1 - This illustration appears in the album of the Biblioteca Nacional (Madrid), but not in its copy of the edition Bruxelles: Fricx, 1706.
2 - The copy of the edition, also with 39 illus. about Cervantes' Don Quixote, includes "Micomicona knelt before don Quixote" (f.p. 273), but this illus. doesn't appear in the album. |
