Commentary | Two different scenes in the same plate (archaic):
The first one, in the background: don Quixote is defeated by the Toledo silk merchants' groom. The second scene, in the foreground: don Quixote is taken back home on Pedro Alonso's mule; also Rocinante with don Quixote's arms. Drawing, shading and engraving are excellent; detailed figures and setting; good gestures and expressions; remarkable style. |
