Commentary | Two different scenes in the same plate:
The first one, in the background: don Quixote fighting with the goatherd Eugenio; they are surrounded by Sancho, the priest, barber, officers of justice, Eugenio's goat... (too small figures to be recognized). The second one, in the foreground: don Quixote remains fallen on the ground after having been beaten by one penitent; Sancho appears gesticulating with sorrow next to him; the penitent is running away; the priest is talking with one of the priests of the procession. Drawing, shading and engraving are excellent; detailed figures and setting; good gestures and expressions; remarkable style. |
