Commentary | In the foreground, don Quixote and Sancho mounted on Clavileño (like an unicorn due to the peg on its forehead); several servants simulate its flight with pairs of bellows and torches; one of them is lighting its fuse.
Notice the lance with a parchment that announces the end of the adventure (right). In the background, the Duke and the Duchess observe the scene. The basic composition for this episode was created by Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657), now turned and more detailed. |
Notes | 1 - It includes a right indication to "Page 477" (Part II, Book III, Chapter VIII, p. 477). |
